Where: Oakdale Rehab and Skilled Nursing
    When: Wednesday, May 18 12:00 p.m. EST

The combination of the aging Baby Boomers and the growing number of family caregivers necessitates that healthcare professionals understand issues that surround caregiving. In the United States, 1.75 million men care for an ill or elderly family member. The discussion will include common challenges faced by the male caregiver, including what research says about them and successful approaches that healthcare professionals can take when working with them.

Following this presentation the participant will be able to:

    • State the common beliefs and stereotypes about male versus female caregivers.
    • Discuss what research has learned about male caregivers.
    • Articulate the unique challenges that male caregivers face and how they approach their roles as caregivers.
    • List some successful approaches and strategies when working with the unique needs of male caregivers, including the use of effective communication techniques.
