Recap: Better Health with Less Meds Event at First Congregational Church of Princeton

Better Health with Less Meds

Recap: Better Health with Less Meds Event at First Congregational Church of Princeton

On Saturday, October 19, 2024, the Oriol Foundation proudly co-sponsored the “Better Health with Less Meds!” event at the First Congregational Church of Princeton. From 10 AM to 12 PM, attendees had the opportunity to hear from Dr. Donna Bartlett, author of MedStrong: Shed Your Meds for a Better, Healthier You. Dr. Bartlett delivered a compelling presentation on the importance of reducing unnecessary medications to enhance overall health.

The Importance of Managing Medications

During the event, Dr. Bartlett highlighted the dangers of overmedication, which can increase the risk of side effects such as falls, hospitalizations, and other serious health consequences. She introduced the concept of “deprescribing”—a process of safely discontinuing medications when they are no longer necessary. By doing so, individuals can improve their quality of life and reduce health risks.

Optimizing Health Through Deprescribing

The event was an enlightening experience for many, offering valuable advice on managing medications, particularly as we age. Dr. Bartlett encouraged participants to regularly assess their treatment plans and consider how a reduced reliance on medications can lead to better long-term health outcomes.

Thank You to Our Partners and Community

We extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Bartlett for her expertise, the First Congregational Church of Princeton for hosting, and everyone who attended and made this event a success. The Oriol Foundation is proud to have supported this important community conversation.
